Health Promotion Curriculum Checklist

Health Promotion Curriculum Checklist

Through the Evidence-Based Health Promotion Initiative project, I developed a tool that organizations or individuals can use to evaluate the quality of a health promotion curricula, and specifically, assess the extent to which a curriculum would be appropriate for the inclusion of children with special health care needs. The curriculum checklist is available for use by anyone and the manual provides sufficient direction to be able to use it effectively. Keep in mind that the purpose of the HPCC is to guide you in selecting a curriculum to promote health and wellness. Download it for free!

A Review of Health Promotion Curricula

Arizona Health Briefs

Another activity that I completed as part of the Evidence-based Health Promotion Initiative was a systematic review of curricula with nutrition and physical activity components. With my colleague ,Dr. Erin Horrocks, I reviewed all the health promotion curricula for quality of research, effect on health outcomes, and relevance for children with special health care needs. It was important to the funder of this project, Arizona Health Services Office of Children with Special Health Care Needs, that curricula were appropriate or adaptable for including diverse children with all abilities. Two programs stood out in terms of quality, intervention effects, and relevance. Learn more about Media Smart Youth and Pathways.
